I've always wondered if I've got a marathon in me...

Hooray for this! For keeping going and doing the long work and having people to cheer you on. I find Substack to be a bit like that, so many writers all so keen to promote each other. Where did you find the rest of your writing supporters?!

I found them mostly on Twitter! For all its faults the writing and book community still thrives on there

That’s interesting! I’d like to grow my community but twitter has always felt a little off putting to me - and more so now! It feels like signing up at this point when everyone is leaving is almost an approval of the direction it’s gone in…..

Oh my goodness I totally get that (I am no fan of Musk’s!) and I even wrote about how it now feels like making your way through a pub that’s gone to seed with lots of people shouting at you till you find your friends at the back! I think Blue Sky has the potential to replace it. The main thing for me is a platform whose medium is words not pictures or videos. There you will find the writers! Substack has that potential too I think! X

Yes I remember that post! I agree that Substack has that potential too. It feels very community minded and can be so inspiring too.

Love this post! Running has also taught me so much about writing and it is certainly a marathon and mostly in my head, not my legs or fingers! Congrats on your second book 😊

Completely agree with all of this. I have only run one marathon (London) and like you cite it as the best day of my life. It equipped me for so much. I have just finished my first manuscript and remembering to just keep moving forward and putting one foot or one word in front of the other
