So interesting to read more about your process. Thank you. Very helpful ideas for how I may start getting the first quarter of my novel done for my dissertation. Actually feels exciting to have the freedom to just get the thing written first and then do a deep dive edit later.

This was so great to read. I like your process. And characters was what I liked the most in your first boik. I thought you were really good at "making them".

Very interesting, Jennie - thanks for posting this. Every writer approaches their book differently (but my approach is remarkably similar to yours) - the main rule of thumb is "do what works for you".

So interesting, Jennie. I find it so hard not to 'look back' but needs must if we are to get to the end of the first draft. Thank you for sharing your editing process. I'm nearly at the end of my first draft of my second book so this is such a timely post. 🙏

Not boring - really really helpful, thank you. I recognised myself in some of your processes and I hope you don’t mind but I think I’ll adopt your approach with my next story.

I’m a writer who really struggles with the logic/practicality of a first draft so thank you for this incredibly generous guide x

This is SO interesting Jenny! I edit as I write which makes me incredibly slow, but does mean I don’t have too much to do after submission. But I find other people’s processes so fascinating, and also inspiring. And I love editing so much. The technical side of my craft is so creative. There’s a piece in the new Island Literary journal about editing, by three of Australia’s practitioners an it offers a good insight into the art…. All the best for your final stages!

Need to bookmark this so I can have a read when I look at my first draft again. Currently letting it ferment for a couple of weeks …
