I’m still struggling with the aftermath of a bout of Covid (it’s really wiped me out) so this week, I am recycling a blogpost I wrote for Goldsboro Books a few months ago, in the hope that next week my brain is back to full functioning!
All five of these books are among my own favourites, Jennie, so I’m thinking I will likely enjoy your own. I will seek it out. And thanks to Cherry Coombe for pointing me in your direction.
Thanks for resharing this, Jennie...I love origin stories. You mention so many of my favourite reads and writing influences, but if pushed The Secret Garden probably takes top spot. I'm halfway through TLOST and savouring every moment. Feel better soon xxx

I'm afraid I haven't read your book yet (copies aren't thick on the ground around here) but this really makes it sound like something I should go to the trouble of ordering in!
It will not surprise you at all to learn I adore The Secret Garden. As a child, I was also very fond of imaginary games and enjoyed being Mary - especially when she stamps her foot and tells Colin he will scream himself to death and she wishes he would. (Clearly, Mary unleashed something within the very good little girl I was...) Although my little brother could rarely be press-ganged into joining and was reluctant to be Dickon and point-blank refused to be Colin Craven, so I often took all the roles. You would have enjoyed my Yorkshire accent. Ahem. xx
